Reflections
Poem Sunday, Poetry, Poem
The pond ripples and the water dances,
I see my reflection move when I am still,
A sad reflection of myself peers back at me as the water stills.
My brows furrow, but hers do not.
I reach forward to swipe the reflection away with my hand.
Touching the water’s surface it sucks me in,
I spin in a circle to see if anyone or anything is around me.
Everything is an upside version of reality,
Trees are inverted, and water is the sky.
I stumble through branches and leaves, trying to find anything that could help me,
She, the other me, pops up in front of me,
Startled, I jumped backward, and she grasped my arms and pulled me upright.
Her eyes sparkling and disturbed,
Her smile was insidious and chilling,
She primped herself perfectly, and everything was exactly as it should be.
This frightens me more than anything else,
I begin to thrash and scream,
Flailing loudly and stomping my feet, the forest shuddered.
Quickly, her hands were on my shoulders and she was shaking me and screaming something indescribable,
The shock of the water hitting my face has me flying into an upright position.
It was a dream,
And nothing more.
